Caught this clip from the Chelsea Lately Show with Chelsea Handler, John Caparulo, Giuliana Rancic and Jay Phillips. They were talking about Jessica Simpson so of course I had to tune in to see what they said!
As it turns out, they talked about the booing incident with Jessica’s first country appearance. At first I thought they were going to say that it was wrong to boo her, because Chelsea started off by being very sympathetic. After all, no one likes to be booed!
But then Chelsea caught a quote about Jessica talking about Tony Romo and how she’d written a song for him. This is where I actually agree with Chelsea a bit, because I don’t think Jessica should be hauling out Tony’s name every time she wants to fit in with country music.
Next in this clip, Giuliana talks about the fact that she doesn’t like that Jessica brings up Texas so much either. Again, I have to agree. It’s like she’s trying to force people to accept her into country music by letting them know “how country” she really is. Take a look at this clip:
The thing they don’t mention in this clip is the fact that she did both these things (talked about Tony and Texas) while in the state of Wisconsin. I can’t tell you all how BIG football is in Wisconsin. The Packers have the second largest fan base behind the Steelers. (Larger than even the Cowboys, folks!) So saying something like this in front of a Wisconsin crowd isn’t going to get people on your side. Plus, if you’re playing in Wisconsin, who cares if you’re from Texas? Say that stuff when you’re in Texas performing.
Again, I blame Joe Simpson for these things. As her manager, I think he should have prepared her better, and talked about what types of things she should have said for that audience. Despite what people say about him, he is a very successful manager so the fact that he didn’t do this surprises me.
Bottom line is, Jess has got to prove herself in country music. It can’t be rushed and it probably will take some time.
I’ve got a great book to give away titled The Best Man’s Speech & Duties. When I saw this book, I knew it would make the perfect giveaway for the readers here at JessandAshlee.com.
Of course not that it applies to the Simpson sisters! After all, the best man at Ashlee & Pete’s wedding was their dog Hemingway. And who KNOWS what’s happening with Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo!
Still, it’s wedding season, and I know at least a couple of you might know someone who is going to be a best man and needs a little help. If so, this book is the perfect solution. It’s a beautifully graphic book with full-length speeches, jokes and quotes, and other tips on things like bachelor parties.
If you’d like to win, leave a comment on this post by Thursday, July 31st. I’ll choose a winner at random and announce the lucky guy or gal the next day.
Man, Jessica Simpson is getting criticized all over the place these days. The latest is this jab because of an outfit Jessica wore recently while in Lake Tahoe. It’s a red, low-cut dress with heels.
Personally, I don’t think this little number is one of her worst, but the Daily Mail definitely disagrees. They said, “To some of her fans, she is a fashion icon and style personified. But we suspect even her most ardent followers won’t be copying Jessica Simpson’s porn star look.”
A recent tidbit from FoxNews questioned how far along Ashlee Simpson really is in her pregnancy. A reporter said she was “Fresh-faced and glowing, a makeup-free Simpson wore a long, flowing, boho dress, but that still didn’t hide her very remarkable baby bump.”
Well, gee…. some ladies just gain the weight a little faster than others. That’s all. (We think.) Of course given the nature of things we’ve heard about the baby, no baby, marriage, no wedding, honeymoon in basement, etc., etc., we’ll all just have to wait and see I guess.
Not that Ashlee Simpson needs some darn good baby advice, but in honor of her pregnancy, why not have another giveaway?
I have a copy of a great little book entitled (coincidentally) Darn Good Advice Baby. It’s written by Jan Faull, M. Ed., who (according to the book) “has taught education for more than 25 years and pulls no punches when it comes to the subject of babies.”
Some of the highlights of the book include “what games to play to stimulate your baby, the pros and cons of co-sleeping, how to introduce your baby to solid foods, why your baby is determined to explore and discover, and how Dad can be an active and supportive partner.”
Sounds like a great book! Want to win it? Well I was thinking recently of all the hoopla surrounding Ashlee and whether she is she having a boy or a girl, and wondered what you think. (Of course with Pete Wentz we really never know what to believe.)
If you’d like to win, leave a comment below with your guess on whether Ashlee is having a boy or a girl (or both, as some rumors are also saying.) Last day to win is Wednesday, July 30. I’ll announce the winner the next day. Good luck!
Jessica Simpson vowed to the crowds during Country Thunder last weekend that she’d never go back to pop music again. (We have it on tape, people!) She rambled a bit, talking about when she forgot the words to her own song (which were also written on a cue card) and how happy she was to be back on stage.
You can tell she’s very nervous but her rendition of “Come on Over” was well received.
It’s no surprise that Jessica Simpson is going to be on an upcoming Elle Magazine cover. What IS interesting is that she’s apparently a bestseller when she does grace a cover.
Apparently her “March 2007 cover was the magazine’s best-selling issue last year, even beating out Lindsay Lohan’s September cover. And the September 2004 issue she appeared on sold the most issues of the past seven years, moving 483,100 copies.” ~source
The March 2007 cover is the one pictured above. Jessica is always great at letting a few things regarding her relationship slip in an interview, too. She blabbed about Tony Romo to Glamour a few months ago and talked about Nick Lachey in the March Elle last year. What will she say this time around?
Did you guys catch Justin Timberlake hosting the ESPY’s this past weekend? I have to say he was pretty good. Hard to believe he was a kid singer once upon a time. I mean, who else could host the ESPY’s and sing “Dick in a Box“) on Saturday Night Live? Not many people.
Justin put on a great monologue, making fun of Tiger Woods, Candace Parker, Tony Romo, and of course, Jessica Simpson. I hope Jessica and Tony had a sense of humor about the whole thing, because it was extremely funny.
Everyone’s still buzzing about Jessica Simpson’s first official country concert appearance over the weekend at Country Thunder in Wisconsin. Jessica always seems to get people very emotional on both sides of the fence. Some people love her and will defend anything she does. While some seem to hate her no matter what.
And me? I’m a fan, absolutely. I believe in what she does but she also does some things that bug the heck out of me. She’s a talented singer who goes too far sometimes. Despite winning over many country music DJ’s with her down-to-earth manner and charm, the fact remained that she did get booed over the weekend at Country Thunder. However, I don’t think those that booed were the majority of people. I think some people really wanted to hear her and some just plain don’t care either way. Most, I think, are fans of Jessica.
It’s interesting, though, the coverage this whole “booing” deal is getting. For example, Fox News went with the booing story, stating that most fans didn’t buy her new country act. CMT said they doubted that she got booed, but it was clear they also didn’t send anyone there to cover her story, either. If she was really the new thing in country, wouldn’t CMT have sent an actual reporter there to write up what happened?
CelebTV ran with a story that Jessica got booed, and then commented on her outfit. Check out her white shirt and daisy duke shorts:
Country Thunder producer Gil Cunningham said Jess did very well for her first country performance, adding that “singing for more than 25,000 fans is a big step.”
For sure. He also felt that the booing was because Jessica mentioned Tony Romo. I can see the logic of this. After all, Packer fans are in the midst of a brew-ha-ha with Brett Favre right now, and don’t want to be reminded of another quarterback.
I’ve caught a few videos of Jessica singing to applause and a couple with boos going on. Some of the hoots were because she was talking too much about herself on stage. She was very excited obviously, and wanted to connect with the crowd, so she chatted… a lot. That might have got the crowd in an uproar, too.
The Kenosha News (the local paper that first reported the booing) actually said the crowd gave Jessica mixed reviews. They added that she also sang a pop song, “With You.” And let’s face it, if you’re going to tell people you don’t want to make another pop album, then don’t sing a pop song during your first country performance.
All in all, the country crowd doesn’t care that Jessica’s been singing a long time. They want to hear her sing country and they might need time to get used to her. It doesn’t mean they won’t embrace her, but for now things still remain to be seen on whether she’ll take the country music biz by storm or whether she’ll give this up after an album or two and go on to do something else.
Last year, whenever Jessica Simpson attended a Cowboy’s game to watch new boyfriend Tony Romo, he lost. Every time.
Instead of blaming Tony, most fans blamed Jessica. Including one of Tony’s teammates, Terrell Owens. Last year he was quoted as saying Jess was “not a fan favorite – in this locker room or in Texas Stadium.”
Now, however, he’s changed his mind. He recently said in an interview, “I told her she is welcome to the stadium anytime. I told her she can come down and sit in my section.”
Aw… Terrell… how sweet.
So what’s with the change of heart? Did Tony take him aside and say, “Hey look pal, that’s my lady you’re talking about!” (Somehow I just can’t see it.)
Whatever the reason for the change, Jessica has to be breathing a sigh of relief. She’s got a lot on her shoulders and doesn’t need to see any more of this:
