Ashlee Simpson Performs Live on the Today Show

Ashlee Simpson performed “Little Miss Obsessive” on the Today show yesterday morning. I still maintain that she shouldn’t have chosen such a dark song for the first cut. This is clearly a song that needs a quiet studio, mood lighting, and just the right slow vibe. Instead, she tries to jam with it and it just doesn’t work. I think this is a mistake, especially because it’s the first thing people are going to use to judge the entire album.

I thought Ashlee sounded okay, but there are a lot of folks that disagree with me. It’s hard to sing in the morning, and I don’t know about you but I would rather hear someone sing live (and off-key) than sound perfect and know that they are lip synching. (And since Ashlee’s already been down THAT ROAD… we’ll leave it at that!)
