Chelsea Lately Discussion About Jessica Simpson

by brrbach on July 24th, 2008

Caught this clip from the Chelsea Lately Show with Chelsea Handler, John Caparulo, Giuliana Rancic and Jay Phillips. They were talking about Jessica Simpson so of course I had to tune in to see what they said!

As it turns out, they talked about the booing incident with Jessica’s first country appearance. At first I thought they were going to say that it was wrong to boo her, because Chelsea started off by being very sympathetic. After all, no one likes to be booed!

But then Chelsea caught a quote about Jessica talking about Tony Romo and how she’d written a song for him. This is where I actually agree with Chelsea a bit, because I don’t think Jessica should be hauling out Tony’s name every time she wants to fit in with country music.

Next in this clip, Giuliana talks about the fact that she doesn’t like that Jessica brings up Texas so much either. Again, I have to agree. It’s like she’s trying to force people to accept her into country music by letting them know “how country” she really is. Take a look at this clip:

The thing they don’t mention in this clip is the fact that she did both these things (talked about Tony and Texas) while in the state of Wisconsin. I can’t tell you all how BIG football is in Wisconsin. The Packers have the second largest fan base behind the Steelers. (Larger than even the Cowboys, folks!) So saying something like this in front of a Wisconsin crowd isn’t going to get people on your side. Plus, if you’re playing in Wisconsin, who cares if you’re from Texas? Say that stuff when you’re in Texas performing.

Again, I blame Joe Simpson for these things. As her manager, I think he should have prepared her better, and talked about what types of things she should have said for that audience. Despite what people say about him, he is a very successful manager so the fact that he didn’t do this surprises me.

Bottom line is, Jess has got to prove herself in country music. It can’t be rushed and it probably will take some time.

I think it’s just so easy to say “I think is better for Jess to do such and such. ..”
First: Jess does whathever Jess wants. I don’t think she can fake herself and be quiet about anything in her life. she never was -come on people, she even discussed her first time with Nick - Jess is not trying to force and pretend anything. she is just like that. she just talks and talks and talks about every bloody thing in her life. especially if she’s happy. she’s done that with Nick… she loves Tony, so she just gushes about it. Do I want her to be more quiet? hell ya! We have no idea what the future brings, so what she doesn’t say can’t be use against her. But she IS LIKE THAT.

As a fan I know she has ALWAYS talked about Texas, how much she loves Texas - the with you song? the first line? ” the real me is a southern girl” ??? -So, anyone who follows Jess career and waches her interviews, etc, knows she has always talked about Texas, and that she wants to make a country album forever. a public affair was supposed to be a country one. was announced as that, untill all the divorce thing, and all hell broke loose…

So, people may talk all they like. Jess will never shut up. And she is inlove with Tony…I mean, even when she was with John she gushed all over the place also. She will always be that way.

and people who are this open are usually the most attacked. I mean angelina Jolie and the sexual positions while being pregnant?? and c.aguilera naked sundays?? To much info for some, but I guess that it is also what in one side creates this HUGE love/ hate response…

As far as Joe, he is a father/ manager. I think people give him much more credit than he has. Pete wentz came out and said what a cool guy he was. Ashlee loves her dad, which is also her manager. He married her and Pete. Trully, I strongly believe he is more told what to do in this time in the girls career than anything else. Which manager would allow his clients to not promote albuns ( Jess - a public affair; Ashlee - a bittersweet world) because they were going trough special times in their lives???

I adore Jess. And I just take her as she is…

Ritovskyta: I know Jess talks alot, but when you’re trying to get fans to accept you in a new genre you’ve got to think about how you come across. The Tony and Texas thing was not appropriate for this particular audience, and her manager should have said, “Hey, keep your stories to other things.” It would have helped her get less criticism.

Plus, yeah, she’s always talked about being from Texas but NOW it seems like a lame attempt to be “more country” for her new record.
