Jessica Simpson Hits the Monterey County Fair

by brrbach on August 24th, 2008

Jessica Simpson played for another country music festival last weekend. She sang for more than 2,000 people at the Monterey County Fair. Apparently the crowd had waited for quite a while too, so they were anxious to see her. Jess told the audience:

“It feels really good being myself again. Thank you for giving me another chance (to sing country).”

She opened the show with “These Boots Are Made for Walking.” Here’s her singing “Do You Know” at the Fair:

Is it just me or do other people see Jessica’s country career as starting all over again in the world of music? I mean, when people are starting out and trying to make a name for themselves, they will perform anywhere, such as a fair. In some ways I think Jessica is downgrading and doing little promos in places I wouldn’t think a big star as herself would perform at. When I think of fair, I don’t think big stars (regardless of what music genre they are). It almost as if she is starting all over again. Technically I guess she is, since she never did country before, and now she is. But even so, she has already made a name for herself. Why is she singing at fairs now?

MK: I think in many ways Jessica IS starting all over again by going into country. She’s got to prove herself as a country artist or the country fans won’t accept her as easily. So I think that’s why she’s doing all these smaller concerts. Plus, it’s a good way to get used to doing her country stage show so when she does get invited to something bigger, she’s already got the practice of playing to a country crowd.
