Jessica Simpson’s Interview on The View: Tony Romo, Underwear, and Dolly Parton

I gave you all a video from Jessica Simpson singing on The View from yesterday, but here’s the video of her interview.

I get the impression that Jessica is really trying to be humble and gracious. She’s had a very years where things haven’t worked out for her (either in career or love) and she really wants this country thing to work. Still, she’s Jessica… and the diva will not be put down! Within the first minute of the interview she drops Tony Romo’s name (about how they were coming home from church when they first heard her single, “Come on Over”) and how it felt like 1999 all over again when she released her first single. (Zero points for subtlety there.)

However, then she talks about Dolly Parton and how she totally messed up the lyrics to the “9 To 5” song (even with cue cards!). You all remember that little event, dontcha? It was the Kennedy Center Honors for Dolly Parton, and Jessica couldn’t even get through “9 To 5” and was crying like a little girl. They finally decided to cut her portion from the program that aired on TV. It was THAT bad.

Jessica took a ton of heat for that. I mean, here she is yakking about how she’s been in the business for so many years and then she can’t even sing a song from cue cards of someone she’s supposed to admire? Sheesh.

One reporter even said of her getting cut out of the broadcast, “Three and a half minutes where you don’t see Jessica Simpson on TV yowling like a trapped cat is infinitely better than three and a half minutes where you do.”

Ouch.

Still, I thought it was good that she brought it up with the ladies from The View because let’s face it folks, a little humility goes a long way.

She also talked about her sister Ashlee a bit, and said when they were kids Ashlee was the one doing cartwheels and acting and she (Jessica) was “the shy one off in a corner” who would “belt out” a song out of nowhere.

Whoopi also brought up the fact that the ladies love wearing shoes from Jessica’s collection. (Way to market, Whoopi!)
