The more I hear about John Mayer’s former romance with Jessica Simpson, the more I think she’s probably glad to be out of that relationship. Get this latest gossip:

Apparently John Mayer used to tell Jess that he was attracted to her “spiritual side” so that she would basically shut up and sit pretty. One source says, “He’d tell her that every time she opened her mouth to speak. It was a nice way of basically saying, ‘Just sit there and be pretty, and don’t ruin it with talk.”

Jessica apparently believed this and told people she was trying to work on her spiritual side. Groan….

Maybe all this talk of Jessica Simpson being happy has inspired John Mayer to get back together with his former LUV Jennifer Aniston. You think?

I still can’t see John with Jennifer any more than I could with Jessica… but hey, who knows. Remember that song Jess wrote about having to take somebody back a bunch of times? Think it could be about John?

Yeah, me too.

Anywho, the folks at TV Guide think Jen and John might be hooking back up. Maybe John wants to beat Jess to the altar?

Does anyone else besides me think it’s weird for Pete Wentz and John Mayer to hang out and talk about babies and fatherhood? First Ashlee Simpson and her hubby Pete Wentz want to have John Mayer as godfather to their baby, and now rumors say Pete is prodding John to have some kids with new girlfriend Jennifer Aniston.

I can’t help but wonder how Jessica Simpson feels about the situation. Even if you’re totally over your ex, if a friend or family member was buddying up to them, wouldn’t it feel like they weren’t on your side? It’s not that I think Jessica doesn’t want John to be happy, it’s that I think it’s kind of heartless of Pete Wentz to be so buddy-buddy with John.

What do you think?

Okay, I really can’t imagine that this is true, but The Sun is reporting that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz will ask John Mayer to be the godfather for their baby.

Apparently Pete and John have become friends. But if you were Ashlee, wouldn’t you insist that John COULDN’T be the godfather? I’m sure he’s a peachy keen guy and all, but to have him be a quasi-part part of the Simpson family forever and forever would be rather uncomfortable for Jessica, wouldn’t it? And I’m sure there are plenty of other perfectly acceptable prospects to ask?

The Sun adds that “they are holding back asking him at the moment because they are not sure how Ashlee’s sister Jessica would feel about her ex having such a strong link to her new niece.”

Uh…. yeah. Ya think?

Maybe all this talk about babies is pushing John towards the married life himself. One report says he and Jen Aniston will have a “trial marriage” of sorts. (Which means they’ll be moving in together.) Apparently he’s been telling her “she’s the one” (and wasn’t Jen in a movie by that name?) and that he wants her to move into his bachelor pad after his current tour (which ends in September.) Is it just me or is it hard to believe these two are really a couple?

On a completely different note - John IS looking much better with his new haircut.

Congratulations to Alice H. who was the winner of Shag’s Little Book of Love. As part of the contest, I asked Jess and Ashlee readers to tell Jessica Simpson whether she should stay with Tony Romo, or dump him. The results were very interesting, and I’ll include those in a later post.

Jessica Simpson has had her share of dating ups and downs. She met Nick Lachey when she was so young, and never really had a chance to date anyone else. They broke up so Jess could spend a little time on her own, but after 911 hit she got scared of being alone and decided to get back together with him. (And what do they say about a break up? Once it’s broke, it stays that way.) She married Nick but with the glare of the spotlight and her dad being around all the time, they broke up.

Then she was rumored to be with a few costars, including Johnny Knoxville and Dane Cook, before having another big romance with John Mayer. John seemed to want Jessica to change, and eventually he got tired of the relationship and dumped her.

Now she has Tony Romo, which has been another up and down relationship. They’ve broken up and got back together several times, and now she’s considering putting him in her new music video for “Come on Over.”

So here’s what I want to know from Jess and Ashlee readers: Should Jessica dump Tony? Or stay with him?

Yep, it’s true. OK! reports that Jessica is kicking around the idea of putting Tony Romo in her upcoming video, “Come On Over.”

Is this a good idea?

If nothing else, I suppose, it will get Jessica some publicity. Which is exactly why she’s considering it. But would Tony even consider such an idea? I mean, the guy can’t even pose for a picture with Jessica.

OK! says, “If it’s not for publicity, he thinks this might be fun for them to do together.”

Fun. Yeah. Romo must have a bigger ego than anyone’s even realized if he really wants to be in a music video.

Well, Jessica did put Nick in her video “Sweetest Sin” and look how great that turned out.

If Tony does say no maybe Jessica can use this fan’s version of “Come on Over.”

Sure, they’re still together. But Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo keep breaking up and making up and you know how that usually goes. Besides that, is it just me or does Tony always seem to have a smug look on his face?

Anyways, we all know that Jessica will be fine if she dumps Tony Romo (or vice versa). And I started thinking about the things she won’t miss about him, either. Here are a few:

1.) Getting booed at Tony Romo’s games.

Jess seemed downright perplexed as to why fans labeled her a jinx. But as any self-respecting football fan will tell you, we don’t like things that distract the quarterback. And Jess was/is a distraction. A pretty one, but still, a distraction. Without Tony, however, she can relax during football season and not have to worry about seeing all those crazy fans make fun of her.

2.) Worrying about being snapped by the paprazzi.

Jess has always loved getting her picture taken, so it must be difficult to constantly spurn the spotlight when it come to Tony. Tony does not like having his picture taken with Jess, and what is THAT all about, anyways? If you’re dating one of the world’s most beautiful women you’d think he’d want to be smiling from ear to ear in every shot. Instead, he keeps his head down or goes a different direction once the paparazzi show up. Without Tony around Jess could smile for the cameras like she was meant to.

3.) Thinking about marriage.

It can be exhausting when your little sister is heading down the aisle and you’re looking at your guy like… hellloooooo. Ring much? And all he’s worried about is telling your pops to back off.

4.) Taking vacations whenever she wants to.

Jess got a lot of flack for luring Tony to Cabo during the playoffs. She didn’t seem to understand the importance of waiting for just a couple weeks more, until football season was over. Waiting…. it’s a concept Jess doesn’t seem to understand. Without Tony she might not have to.

5.) Blue frosting.

Jessica will undoubtedly never touch the stuff again.

Jessica Simpson has had happier times. Lately her sister is getting all the attention while Jess can’t seem to keep her love life or career together.

Here are just a few reasons why it sucks to be Jessica Simpson right now.

1) Ashlee Simpson has a new album and new marriage while Jess sits on the sidelines.

Like every pair of sisters, the Simpsons have a bit of sibling rivalry. But unlike most sisters, Jessica was always the one that got most of the attention from her parents. Now, suddenly Ashlee is front and center, making headlines with her music and personal life, while Jess has to struggle to get her on and off boyfriend to even take her to Ashlee’s wedding.

2.) Jessica has been labeled a jinx and a bad influence for Tony Romo.

It’s bad enough when your boyfriend’s friends don’t like you, but when thousands of fans have it out for you? When your mere presence at the game makes fans groan with disgust? That’s not fun.

3.) Ashlee Simpson has beat out Jess in a hotness poll.

For years Ashlee was the cute little sister, while Jessica was the babe. No matter what was happening in Jessica’s life, she could always rely on the fact that at least she got more attention for her looks. And she worked it. This year, however, Ashlee ranked much higher in Maxim’s Hot 100 list than Jessica. When you’ve depended on your looks your whole life, as Jessica has, that’s got to hurt.

4.) Jessica’s ex has moved on.

Getting over someone you cared about is hard enough, but when your ex has moved on? That’s especially hard. It’s no wonder Jessica was rumored to be drowning her sorrows with booze after hearing John Mayer had found love again with Jen Aniston.

Her romance with Tony Romo has been on again/off again for months. They break up for a short time and then immediately get back together. But even if they reconcile after this latest argument, it’s bound to only be for a short time. Tony is obviously not the one for Jess. But who is?
